Onward

As long as I remind myself that it's a learning process.  Just keep making something every day.

Finally, a few colors on this blog, but there's a long way to go.

That critic that resides in my cranium says, "But what about craft, editing, draftsmanship?  Why do you feel the need to post just anything today when a better one could be done tomorrow when you're not rushing off to bed?"

Can one of you shut that voice up, please?

More cafe sketches

These two were just from imagination and not in the cafe.

First time at this cafe...

I often don't draw regular/every day clothing that you see on the streets or I think I do when I'm not really observing what it is people wear.  I haven't even drawn kids skulking about my neighborhood in their pajamas when that is clearly something they are doing way too often these days.

Is it really that difficult to change your clothes when you get out of bed??  No, it's not kids.  I know your parents are too lazy to tell you so, but you look like slobs.  Take a bath, comb your hair, and just be presentable.  I'm no not saying people need to go around wearing suits and ties or dresses every day, but come on!  (Trying not to be a grumpy old man...trying not to be...)

It was too warm for that kid to be wearing a thick hoodie with his shorts.

Just shapes for compositions.

Saw someone who looked like this guy on the left just looking gruff in the passenger seat. To me he was someone who'd wring a person's neck if he wanted or needed to.

More sketches

Just working on those 18 head sketches from that anatomy book mentioned below.  I'll post some other stuff, so I don't bore myself, but here are three and four.

This one was done straight with a Pitt Pen and my Pentel brush pen--no pencils.

1951 Anatomy Book

I haven't used any reference in a while, so I thought I'd warm up with some sketches from this book I bought back in college called Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist by Stephen Rogers Peck.  At the back of the book, there's a section called "Racial Types" with head shots.  Here are sketches of the first two.  Number six is going to be a "generalized mongoloid from mongolia."  I think the book may be a bit dated.

I've drawn this first guy before, but I thought I'd just sketch all 18 of them since I never go to the others the first time around.

This guy looks like he could crush me in a matter of seconds if he wanted to.

Fictional Soup

You like ramen, so why not pretend you're on an alien planet and imagine what bowls of soup look like rendered in ink?  It's a good way to work on line quality and textures, for me anyway.  Maybe I can be the go-to artist for renderings of outerspace food.  Hmm...

with really quick colors just to separate the shapes a bit more

It's a good way to warm up before drawing all the other stuff on the to-do list. This post is becoming overly-hyphenated.  Incorrectly hyphenated is more like it...

July Already. Ugh.

This may be the start of posting on this blog two to three times a week.  First up, is a quick four-panel comic about distractions of which there can be many.

17:36. Here's the sketch of the strip.
